Problem Statement
The existing study space solutions, such as Meet Up, Google Maps, and Yelp, primarily assist students in finding places to study in their community. However, these platforms fail to offer a comprehensive solution for students to both discover study locations and facilitate real-time communication. Our app aims to fill this gap by providing a platform where students can search for study spaces and engage in chat functionality.
Project Process
Overview
Our project reimagines the way students, remote workers, and writers find study spaces in their community. Existing solutions like Meet Up, Google Maps, and Yelp lack the complete package. Our app combines user-friendly design with location-based search to help users discover study spaces, engage with study groups, and foster a supportive community. We aim to empower educational and professional pursuits and measure our success by user app engagement. Our key assumptions are based on data accuracy and the demand for fresh, convenient study locations, making us a go-to resource for users.

Project Goal
Our mission with Study Space is clear: revolutionize how students and professionals discover and engage with study spots. By seamlessly integrating user-friendly design, location-based search, and real-time chat functionality, we aim to be the ultimate resource for those seeking fresh and convenient study locations. Success is measured through heightened user app engagement, as we aspire to surpass existing platforms and become the go-to solution for educational and professional pursuits.
👋 Hey there
This project was completed for my Interaction Design class. This project was part of our Final and is a team project. The team consists of 6 members with different roles. User interview and user research was conducted as part of the app development. Certain bits may be blurred to protect interviewees privacy. Hope you enjoy reading this case study!

Research Processes
The team completed the competitive audit with the goal of understanding who would be in hypothetical competition with the app “Study Space”. We as a group believed it was beneficial to break down the competitive audit into two categories based on our competition
In conclusion, making an app tailored for our audience: remote workers, students, etc. poses the primary challenge for our team. While potential competitors exist, Google Maps, Meet Up, and Yelp face a common issue of broad algorithms, leaving numerous unaddressed issues. The previously mentioned problem statement remains unanswered by the competition, creating a gap that we believe the "Study Space" app is poised to fill.
Competitive Audit
In our user interviews, we had the opportunity to interview five people with different carer backgrounds and study preferences. These insights played a role in shaping the StudySpace app, ensuring it caters to the unique needs and habits of our users. I conducted my interview with Amy, an extroverted Special Education teacher, highlighted the value of connecting with like-minded peers in productive study spaces. Her input, alongside other participants, informs the development of features designed to enhance group study sessions and find ideal study locations. Below are some key takeaways from Amy's interview, presented alongside an illustrative screenshot for a comprehensive understanding.
User Interviews
Personas
As part of our design approach, we've developed two detailed personas, Gam and Matt, each embodying the unique characteristics and preferences of our user base. Through these personas, we aim to ensure that the StudySpace app caters to a wide range of users, creating a more inclusive and user-centered experience for all.
